Results. The vast majority of spa and salon technicians do not specialize in the Art of Brow shaping. Brow design is rarely if ever included in an aesthetician or cosmetologist's educational curriculum, and it is certainly not required for licensing. Furthermore, it's something that calls for an artistic eye and an intimate understanding of brow and facial anatomy, and the subtle interplay between them.
When you go in for a brow waxing, they generally get to work without much if any dialog. You are more than likely paying for a removal of excess hair around the brows, instead of a true and focused shaping. At iBrow, we consult, educate, and analyze your face to give you the optimal, individualized brow service wherein your most flattering shape is achieved.
When it comes to brows, I neither wax nor thread. Tweezing is my method of choice. It allows for full control (i.e. maximum precision) as each hair is removed individually, and when it comes to brow shaping, every hair matters.
I do not recommend waxing for brows as the eye area is much too delicate for this method. It is also the least precise of all the methods, as you cannot fully control where the wax goes. It is easy for the wax to spread over hairs that a technician does not intend to cover.
Every hair plays a role in the outcome of a shaping. The accidental removal of a single hair is noticeable to me, and when two or three hairs are unintentionally removed, the difference is noticeable in the outcome of a brow's shape. Waxing also has a notorious tendency to "kill" hair follicles more than any other method. This is extremely unfortunate for those who have been waxed by technicians unskilled in the Art of Brow shaping.
Threading, the ancient Near Eastern/South Asian/Far Eastern method of removing hair between twisted cotton threads, does not have as many cons as waxing, though the control factor is also sacrificed. The brows of threading recipients tend to get progressively thinner, and it is also possible to get nicks and cuts from an unskilled threading technician. Threading will give you a paper-straight edge beneath the front of your brows, which can look harsh and unnatural. As one should be noticed for their beautiful brows and not the unnaturally straight lines that define them, this aesthetic may not be a desired one.
No. Everyone has a different face and as such deserves a personalized shaping in order to achieve their best result.
They may or may not work for you, but brow counters or "brow bars" rely on stencils and wax, which I do not advocate.
Please ensure that your eyebrows are grown in before you come for a shaping. This will usually take 6-8 weeks. Though it may be difficult, it is highly important that you keep your hands off your brows during this time and allow them to grow. Not only will this ensure the best result but also the best run for your money. This also applies to those of you who make regular visits.
